    Low temp baseboard

I'm interested in this thread. There are more reasons to consider condensing boilers, or at least boilers we are able to vent through wall. I'm looking at a 1920's 5 story abortion.3 floors steam rads, 1 floor gas fired unit heaters, 1 floor electric heat. Walls are 10 to 12" sandstone with brick facing. Trying to calculate baseboard required with say 150F supply temp and 30 to 35 temp drop. All my commercial software doesn't cut it. My brain is sore. Our thinking is that in our locale 20% of heating season will be non condensing, that leaves a lot of use for condensing temperatures. We can't re-use the existing brick chimney as we would have to bring it up to current code, so condensing boilers are starting to look good. Just need to get this Slant Fin J series board calculated.
  • Jack, I'll help you

I'm home right now, but I'm a tech for the factory, and I'd like to help.

If you want to figure at lower temps, take the BTUH number at STEAM temps, and multiply by factors from this graph.

Here is the J series tables, use the steam rating multiplied by the water temp factor for your return air temp (usually 65° F) on the graph.

    Running Baseboard @ Low Temp.

Thanks Noel, I just got home from work and I've got to get this together for tomorrow. Your Correction Factor chart will confirm and make me more confident of my numbers.
