Problem With Local Plumbers & New Technology

Why would you demean a trade you know nothing about? I am neither an electrician or plumber, but at least I know there is no such thing as 277v 3ph. It is 277v 1ph. It is derived from one leg of 460-480 3ph and the neutral wire from the transformer.
I would call stray voltage every bit as subtle and dangerous as Legionella and CO. Con Edison in Boston is having a tough time dealing with it. Recently, a dog was "fried" on a manhole cover. There have been other non-lethal incidents in the city as well. Talk to any dairy farmer about stray voltage and it will open your eyes.

So your in Kenai and can't find a contactor who will install anything but the old Weil Mc...? I don't thing you have tried real hard. Have you called John White? I consider him one of the best around. or others who have installed many other boilers. Buderus, Veissman, others. Also lots of Tekmar knowledge up there.
There are some who are stuck in the past, but many know what your looking for. Parts are not a problem, since the local FNW (now Fergenson), has parts in stock for these and others. If they don't we may.
I am in Homer (80 miles south of you) and in the last 10 years or so have rarely installed the old basic boiler w/ brainless controls.
Your either expecting it to be too cheap to be real, or have not really checked out the contractors around you.
Also......to all you plumber bashers out there that assume that if you wear more than one hat, than one can't fit. Quit your generalizations. Some of us live in areas where we do both, and do both good. Just because some of us have jumped through all the legal lisc. hoops and are doing both, does not mean you can assume we are not heating experts.
I could equally show you the many self-titled boiler experts, who don't have customers, only victoms.
Also....I have nothing against the "find a contractor" list, but its not proof in itself of anyones integrity or ability to do excelent work. I just don't see how it could really help me in our small town, where most jobs we get from word-of-mouth. I know of hardly anyone here who opens the yellow pages, let alone do a computer search, for a local contractor.

no more flame bait
DIY,
Look, you can either come here or not. There is no need to bait the people who are here with comments like this.
And to the others, do not respond any more to this or to any other posts like it. It's just this kind of noise that ruins a forum. We've had a number of these flame bait postings over the last few months, and it is ruining the site, IMO. I've been in forums for 20 years and it's this stuff that can kill a good forum.

I think you guys think there is no one up here......
who knows anything. There are manufact/reps., wholsalers, retailer, and many good mechanical contractors, who have installed many different types and brands of boilers................yes even the mighty munchkin, which by the way is not so much different from the basic primary/secondary piping. Do find getting replacements for their defective blower motors a pain, but they are just a phone call and a few hours away.
There are many good contractors real close to Ufda. The supply stores are not as close together as some of you are used to, but I bet our trucks and shops are a lot better stocked than you could ever imagine.
And no we don't use boilers in our igloo's. But yes.....seal oil if prepared right is good stuff, to dip dried/smoked salmon in.

We're not trying to put ourselves above anyone here, we are trying to condone nothing more than SAFTEY! If you were to go to say, an automotive forum, and ask how to rebuild your cars tranny... you'd get told to find your nearest service station! Or... even better yet. Act like you did here, saying that anyone could do our job? they just choose not to?!!??!! that's a direct insult to the trade! You make it seem like plumbing is a low paying, non-respected job, when in fact it's the complete opposite. I wouldn't be suprised if we on this forum, make more than you my friend...
I think everyone, including myself is VERY sick and tired of this bashing of our trade... If this is the only reason why you're on this forum, then in my opion, you should just leave. The codes are in place for a reason, and to be able to practice the trade that the codes pertain to, you need to be liscenced! I think if you knew the half of what kind of knowladge goes into the plumbing/hvac trades you would be blown away. I guess ignorance is bliss... or in this case arrogance.
