    Bridge of Sighs

Any old timers out there ?

We've had some good soul searching post lately, how about some light hearted banter for the Holidays ?

I picked up Robin Trowers Birdge of Sighs last night and it brought back my old High School days.

Who remembers that Robin use to play for Procol Harem ?

    Crank it up !!!!!

    Scott

    \"Long misty days...\"

I seem to remember listening to that song at full volume in my bedroom sometime in 1976/77. I think I did it last week, as well.

I'm trying to compile an all time top ten play loud CD for a friend for Christmas. I have about 40 that could go on the list. Got any suggestions?

not to be a smart aleck...

But doesn't just about any rock-n-roll song qualify? My personal favorites would run along the lines of early Bob Segar or Mitch Ryder. Maybe the Geen Monaleshi(SP) by Fleetwood Mac. Not sure which album it's from but I know it's on the double "Best of" album.

    Headphones stuff...

I recall Robin Trower being in a group called "BLT" with Jack Bruce on bass - there was a song "Into Money" (?) that sounded great cranked up! How about those Led Zep songs that the radio never plays because they're more than 3 minutes long - "No Quarter" (Song Remains the Same),"In the Light" (Physical Graffiti), "Achilles Last Stand" {Presence).

    And then there's.......

"Ave Maria" from The Carpenters Christmas Collection for a real Christmas Blowout. Or ANY of the cuts from that Christmas album. It doesn't get any better at this time of the year.

    Bruce Springsteen!

My all-time favorite- "Born to Run"

Also- "Rosalita", "Jungleland", "Badlands", "Darkness on the Edge of Town", "Hungry Heart", "Two Hearts", "Born in the U.S.A", "No Surrender", "Dancing in the Dark", "Better Days", "Murder Incorporated", "Youngstown", "The Rising" and anything off one of his live albums.

And for the holidays, his performances of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" and "Merry Christmas, Baby".

Those of you who have never seen him in concert are missing something really special.

My favorite Zep song- "When the Levee Breaks" (originally performed by blueslady Memphis Minnie)

Some more that some of you might not know: "The Warrior"- Scandal, "Shadows of the Night"- Rachel Sweet backed by an E Street wanna-be band, "Because the Night"- Patti Smith, "You Took the Words Right Out of my Mouth (Hot Summer Night)"- Meatloaf, whose studio band included the E Street band's drummer and pianist as well as Todd Rundgren on guitar, "I Don't Want to Go Home", "The Fever" and "It's been a Long Time"- Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, "Copperhead Road"- Steve Earle, "School's Out", "No More Mr. Nice Guy" and "Poison"- Alice Cooper, "The Weight" in both the Band's original version and the one sung by the Staple Singers and Marty Stuart, "Pinball Wizard" from the Tommy movie- Elton John out-rocks the Who in this version........ I'm sure there are more but these are the ones that came to mind at the moment.

John, I doubt you'll be able to get that CD down to ten songs. There are just too many great ones out there.

    A lot of good

memories there. It's nice that I survived my young and reckless days. One that comes to mind is Southern Man by Neil Young on the 4 way street album. I just saw the Eagles in September at the MCI center. They are the masters when it comes to rocking out. When Joe Walsh does Walk away or Rocky Mountain Way, I just got to break out my air guitar and play along. WW

    Years ago when

I was a young fly boy in the USAF I was stationed at Mather AFB in Sacramento, CA. I looked in the paper one day and Duke ElLington was playing in the lounge bar at Harrahs in Lake Tahoe. For the price of a beer you could sit and listen to some terrific music. I always felt it was one of the best deals for entertainment that I ever found.

Sure would like to do it again, but alas.

\"..YOu are so unforgiving!!!! you are so cold....in our

long time crossing...the Bridge of Sighs......" I ain't as Old as you chowdahead, But My brother Bart is your age. We slept in the same room till he was 18. Everynight I would fall asleep to Trower Led Zep, Deep Purple, and Black Sabbath. Although he had the headphones on, he played it so loud I could here it across the room. Those are still my favorite bands. How about Too Rolling Stoned? and The Fool and Me. I still regard Roben as one of Rock's greatest guitarists. Actually he just played Bass in Procol Harem. His Bass Player in Trower was James Dewar. He Lives on Long Island and has a regular job now - he runs the loading dock at Estee Lauder!!!!! You can see and talk to the dude anytime - nice guy. Saw Trower in 1986 in New Rochelle small-club. Blew us away. I also loved his stuff with Jack Bruce. Mad Dog

Hate to break the news to you Mad Dog...

The real James Dewar suffered from brian damage before passing away last year. I don't know about him working at Este Lauder, but I know they have a very good softball team that the team that I am very fortunate to be on (Pavemasters) played unbelievable games in the finals the past couple seasons (even if they did bring in "ringers").

Do you remember that album MD? It was the album before Smoke on the Water. Outstanding! I bought it on cassette on one of my young pilgrimage trips to Grenich Village, oh so many moons ago!

    This is great! What memories!

    Deep Purple ROCKS!!!

I bought "Machine Head" on 8-track when I was a kid.

Got to see them twice on the Perfect Strangers tour. First time Joan Jett opened and got booed off the stage. Second time Bad Company opened. They did NOT get booed!

    Metallica: "Ride the lightning"

Judas Priest: "Unleashed in the East"

    Plasmatics: "Coup De e'tat"

Can't listen to this stuff in customers houses though!

    I guess you had to

have been there........ But anything by the Cars had to get turned up. Nobody mentioned Tom Petty, Boston, Kansas, Foghat........ I am old and senile and I drank and smoked a lot back then. But I like 70's classic rock on the job site and have been known to turn it up, That Milwaukee jobsite radio is ok if you can get a signal....the antenna sucks!

OK boys....Guitar ROCK was the querry.....

I, like Heatboy think Joe Satriani is great, but lets think about the fact that he taught Stevie Vai how all those tricks go ! Step back, to the past, and I find my favorites to be.

Al Dimeola. If you've never heard of him before, think Jazz gone acid at about the speed of sound. (Stick to the stuff he did in the late 70's/early 80's ,Elegant Gypsy ,Casino)
The newer stuff is great if your a guitar purist,as he leans toward Flemenco, Spanish and Brazilian beats. Heck, your wife may even find it enjoyable.

Frank Zappa.... As twisted and out there as he was (or seemed to be), one of the finest guitar players the world has ever heard.(technically!. If you read music, get some Zappa sheet music, it's a trip!)

Stevie Ray Vaughn, need I say more ?

Walter Becker,of Steely Dan. Sounds silly right? LISTEN to the guitar work in their music and see if your mind don't change.

Joe Perry and Brad Whitford (together) of Aerosmith. Whitford carries the band , but only with the Perry touch.

Anyone out there remember a guy named Eric Johnson? Superb rockin guitarist.

The list is long, and I'm going out for a holiday party. Let your mind roam the MANY choices that we all hear and enjoy. (I'm still wondering about that Carpenters post?) For each and every one of us there is a "favorite" , but don't let it make you judge a friend by it.

Happy Holidays too all my Wallie Friends, and a special THANKS to Dan for letting this all happen Chris

P.S. Tip O' the hat to Mr. Barba. Broke down and pulled up "Blow Your Face Out" , and MAN was that a GREAT album !

    MARRRY .........

Martin Barre ... now theres a un-sung rock guitar player.

Actually, I heard an interview with Ian Anderson where he said that voice is actually from an old radio program and its a mother calling " Henry ".
