    Repairing/Replacing Header

I am a HO with the only steam/vapor system in my area. I am repairing/replacing the header to properly pipe. I have been able to remove some of the pipes but some seem to be too stubborn to remove. Any suggestions? Should I heat the joints up. I'd like to reuse some of the elbows and other piping if possible. Any suggestions on how to loosen the old pipes?

    Suggestions

Free advice is just that,........ free advice. It is not always what you might want to hear.

I would not waste a great deal of time trying to save the old fittings. If they are not bigger that 2" IPS , the new fittings are not expensive. 2-1/2" and up are a little more , but still not that much.

I would concentrate on saving the threaded end of the pipe that is in place.

After saying that, Brute Strength, a very large pipe wrench, [or two] a length of pipe to slide over your pipe wrench handle and sheer determination work best. The problem here is you often damage the fitting by causing it to become out of round, egg shaped, or they crack.
