We finished the replacement of a system that was connected to PB piping without a heat exchanger. The amount of sludge and iron in the system uafter 7 years was unbelievable. It took 3 chemical treatments to remove the particulates. The new setup uses a Vitodens 11-44, a 92g VitoCell 300 tank, a separate mixing valve for each zone temperature (concrete and gypsum) and the HK-1 for Mix temp #2. There's also a pump for the HW coil in the air handler. All pumps are stainless, and there are no ferrous components. (and no HX) We replaced all of the radiant manifolds with Wirsbo flo-port manifolds. We'll finish balancing when it gets colder. I've also included our method of installing a LW cutoff on the safety header, rather than build a trombone. On the air side, we added (2) Lifebreath TFP 3000 particulate filters to each air handler.
My only question in the system design is why the Vitodens requires a separate HK-1 for the 2nd mix temperature... why not integrate the Vitotronic 300 rather than the Comfortrol?

the comfortrol should be able to handle 2 zones plus the dhw by adding the second interface to the power supply for the mix valve. Assuming you are using all viessmann products - can you eloborate on the additional HK??

The Vitodens will do 1 mix valve and 1 high temp pump. To add the 2nd mix valve, the HK-1 is required. It's an independent outdoor reset module. Detailed info on Viessmann's website.

were also replaced with 5/8" white melamine boards over the SR. It's alot easier than waiting for the paint to dry and easier to set the hangers on.
