Before
Some of you may remember this job. I posted it back in January when I first looked at it. I was called in to troubleshoot this new installation. It was 17*F when I checked it out. The system could only maintain 51*F inside. I soon found out why. The only solution was to rip it out and start over. We were able to salvage a couple hundred feet of Multi-Cor and a few manifolds. Everything else was trashed. -DF

After
We spent the last 2-1/2 weeks rebuilding this system. We re-did the radiant using Quik-Trak plates. We added Runtal and Myson radiators to supplement the radiant. We replaced the boiler and added an indirect. The Danfoss panel controls the radiant zones. We gutted the Unico system and started over. The homeowners can't wait till next winter to give it a test drive. -DF

Why
clamp the tubing between the Quick trak?0 -
Clamps
The clamps between the plates keep the pipe from falling out of the plates. I once installed about 4500 sq. ft of RTI plates over the course of three bitter cold winter days. I returned to jobsite the following Monday to find close to 1/3 of the pipe had fallen out of the plates (even with silicone). Once bitten, twice shy. -DF

Looks great Dan
I see you 've picked up on the viesman equipment. I'd heard troubling tales of the local distributor. Hope all went well with that. The Danfoss panels really clean up the clutter, don't they? I'm still looking for a chance to use them. See you soon. WW

Boiler
Thank you for the nice comments, everyone. Ron, the Burnham boiler was only about 10 years old but was in rough shape. There was no return water temperature control and the sections were corroded from flue gas condensation. The homeowners were tired of the problems and wanted a reliable system. I felt the best solution was to replace rather than repair the boiler. -DF

Viessmann
Wayne,
I bought the Viessmann equipment from Jeff Riley @ Thos. Somerville Co. Jeff is one of a kind in the supply house business. The local rep, John Sargiannis, has been very helpful and responsive. What kind of problems have you heard of? See you Tuesday. -DF

Dan, just curious
what Danfoss panel did you use? 2 way, 3 way, 4 way, outdoor reset?

Rads
How are you controlling the radiators? TRV's? Just letting them run on reset? RTU's?0 -
Rads
Steve,
The panel radiators pictured are in an area of the house that does not have radiant floor heat. They are controlled by a setpoint control (air sensing thermostat). The water temperature is regulated by the Vitronic reset control.
Three other radiators provide supplementary heat to the radiant system. They are piped in parallel with the manifolds and regulated by TRV's. -DF
