Convector steam rad

I have a single pipe steam system with all original rad's from 1903....except in my bathroom which was "remodeled" in 1934! There, sits a lousy steam convector that always needs help. Forever am I taking off the vent and blowing thorugh it to get the steam into the convector. Even the riser in the basement stays cold until I pop off the vent, shake it, blow through it, and put it back on. Then she heats nicely...(but not as nice as my old 1903's)! Why does this one give me so much trouble!? I have replaced the vent several times a season and always the same problem?

Jeff, sounds like an air problem, Are you sure you have the correct air vent on the convector. If you get steam into the convector when it is removed and heats nicely, then install a larger air vent so it exhaust the air rapidly.
Can you post a pix of the convector?
Hope this helps, ANt
