    I love the Canal

I've skated it three years running now. It was is very nice shape three weeks ago. Last year was a bit sketchy though(too warm). I'm from New Hampshire, it's about a 350 mile trip. I have friends that live up in Ottawa. We visit them 3-4 times a year. I've also recently been to Pembroke. I grabbed some grub at the Irving restaurant back in October one night. My friend Barry Smith of Ottawa formerly lived in the Ottawa Valley, specifically, Pembroke. Very nice town. I've heard all kinds of stories about local history and "shack town".

    lovely area

I've explored parts of the Blackhills and Badlands over the last few years. I'm from NH so it's quite a drive. I've been all over the west and south west but something about western SD keeps calling me back. Favorite memory last road trip this Oct was waking up at dawn out in the sage brush on blm land after camping out to find buffalo had beded down with us the night before. It was a sunny, incredibly windy, cold beautiful morning. We left our tent, we for a short hike to the top of a distant knoll, when we returned all the buffalo had vanished with out a trace. It was dreamlike.

Hickory is in the western foothills of the Blue Ridge Mtns., 1hour from Charlotte, 5hours from the coast. I hope there are more wetheads from the Carolinas than have responded but this area of the South is slow to accept the HRH systems that will someday RULE THE WORLD!!!!

    WoW - some thread!

Spent the first 25 years in Ireland - last 22 in Boston area. Have strong desire to move south - or anywhere away from snow and cold (ironic that I should feel this way towards a climate that has allowed me to feed and house my family for so many years).
