buying a new boiler

Floyd is right, though.
You need to define your application.
Your best bet is to find a professional contractor that you trust & then trust him to select the best, most appropriate equipment for the job.

new boiler
can someone let me know if burnham is a good boiler to buy? or should I stay away from it?0 -
Gas, oil, for what application????
really need to know more info. to make an intelligent recomendation....
diferent things need different equipment.
You wouldn't go mud bogging in a little metro......
The Burnham boiler is a great boiler if used in the right way, for the right application.

Bill's right...
I've seen contractors install boilers that should last 50 years, and they started leaking after only 7. It is hard to find a bad boiler, it is really easy to find a bad installation. Find a good contractor that really knows thier way around your type of system and that keeps up with all the changes that are in the boiler business, and go with what they recommend. If you're in Northwest IL,give me a call. I like to think I'm the type of contractor I just described.

Two cents worth from an HO
Boilerpro et al are right -- with a minor caveat: if you can't find a really good contractor who already knows your type of system cold (my problem) find a really good contractor who is intelligent and willing to learn all there is to know about your system! (my solution). Then let him take it... he will do a good job and, better yet, be around to help you out the next time!Br. Jamie, osb

One of the things i have learned in life is that the answers are usually easy to find once you learn the right questions to ask.
Is there somewhere to go to learn what questions are relevant so that you can try to determine the really knowledgeable contractor from the one that just tells you he is. I am still paying for the last time I didn't know the right questions.
There isn't any listed contractors near my area and I am also trying to decide on a new boiler.

Thank you ken! of course any plumber will tell you they are the one for the job but how do you really know if he is competent? unfortunately there are more inadequate plumbers than adequate ones. I just hope I don't get taken for a ride!0 -
Hey CW!!!!
Ask for names, #'s, pics, or get the guy to take you around and show you his work!!!
If a guy is proud of his work and KNOWS that he does a good job.... he will be more than
happy to show off what he has done!!!!!!
Just another way to CYA!!!!

I agree that is good advice,Floyd.0 -
Hey Floyd!
Is there any web site where I could type in a plumbers license # and see if he is in good standing?0 -
where are you located0 -
Plumber may not be right person
There is a difference between plumbers and heating men, some are both, but a lot are not especially when it comes to steam and controls.Look for a good heating man in your area and judge him by seeing his work and asking the right questions. Competence usually shows through.
