trouble with steam

having steam problem commercial steam boiler has 2 pressuretols running system at 1 1/2 lbs. on occasion will trip off on hi pressure 5lbs. have cleaned the pigtail have moved the the low pressure control and pigtail to a better location on boiler system ran ok last night was off on hi pressure this morning thinking of running it on vapor almost forgot the water line bounces all over the place need help thank you

  • I'd almost wonder if one of them

    wasn't working properly, as in it doesn't repeat at the same point every time. I don't know which one, likely the operating control may shut off a little late, and the water hitting them may pop the manual one.

    A boiler that floods when it shuts off may satisfy a pressuretrol that is set low and mounted low, but not one at 5 lbs. That would take flooding over ten or fifteen feet more than the control height.

    I did once try a vacuum vent on a system with a feed tank. It pulled a vacuum on shutdown and sucked all of the water out of the tank, into the boiler and tripped the pressuretrol.

    I put it back the way it belonged. I had to try....
