I'd almost wonder if one of them

wasn't working properly, as in it doesn't repeat at the same point every time. I don't know which one, likely the operating control may shut off a little late, and the water hitting them may pop the manual one.

A boiler that floods when it shuts off may satisfy a pressuretrol that is set low and mounted low, but not one at 5 lbs. That would take flooding over ten or fifteen feet more than the control height.

I did once try a vacuum vent on a system with a feed tank. It pulled a vacuum on shutdown and sucked all of the water out of the tank, into the boiler and tripped the pressuretrol.

I put it back the way it belonged. I had to try....
