    One pipe steam radiator valve

    Hey,

I don't have my Lost Art... handy as I'm at work and I'm not sure this answer is in it anyway. I need a straight radiator shutoff valve for one pipe steam radiator. The angle ones are the only type I can find. I did find a globe style radiator valve but I realize it is going to trap water in the radiator (must be intented for two pipe steam or hot water). Any suggestions? Just a standard gate valve? I was hoping for an authentic radiator valve for appearance sake and also since the union is part of the valve. With a gate valve I need to add a union using a couple of nipples and the thing will just look ugly.

    Radiator Gate Valves

You're right, Scott- a straight globe valve is not the answer. They used to make gate valves with radiator unions on them. I'm not sure if anyone still does, but it can't hurt to look.

If you can't find one of these, an ordinary gate valve and union will work fine.

Just bought two of them at Home Depot. I believe you can also find them at the website of Legend Valves and Durst. The one I bought at Home Depot are Durst made, I believe in NJ?

    Radiator Valves at Home Depot

Wish I had an answer. The ones at Home Depot are imported from the Pusan Pipe Company in China and are junk. The gates fall off them if the casting is not full of sand holes.

It may be your only choice; as most on-line venders only sell the Chinese stuff also, except they charge American prices.

    Good luck.
