Fuel Oil Additive Needed...?
Over the summer, we moved into a 1500 sq ft house in Westchester County, NY. The oil fired New Yorker hot water boiler is only one year old. Because the oil tank (in the attached garage) was probably 30 years old, we had it replaced with a 275 gallon Roth tank, new piping to the burner, and a Tiger Loop. The old tank was almost empty and I chose to not transfer any of the oil.
The garage shares a wall with the boiler room and the chimney is exposed near the oil tank. I'm sure the garage temperature won't drop to freezing
.
Should I think about a fuel oil additive...? I'm not concerned about jelling but what about microbes or other fuel oil problems...?
The boiler uses fuel all year as the DHW is produced by the in-boiler tankless coil.
Your thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul

I doubt that you need any additive, so longas you buy your oil from a reputable dealer. If you were going to let it sit for a few years without using it… maybe. With continuous use? Not really.

Thank you... Yes, I am buying the oil from a reputable company with automatic delivery. I also have a service contract with them...
