What burner is on there now? Have you figured the ROI adding oil tank removal or abatement? Since a gas power burner will be a few percent less efficient than oil, and gas has a lower pound for pound BTU input, its an "in the Red" investment. Money wise I doubt total cost will offset resale value. If you're doing it for another reason, then by all means, do it. "Already approved" meaning there's a meter on site sized to handle the boiler? What about main piping?

BTW, the title reads like you're looking to convert to oil.

With $6.00-plus/gallon oil, converting to gas is a no-brainer.

at 84% efficiency for a gas boiler and 87% efficiency for an oil boiler (both atmospheric, cast iron, like the Burnham X-2 vs the Burnham MPO-IQ), and 140,000 btu/gal for heating oil, you only need the delivered gas (per therm) / oil (per gallon) price ratio to be under 0.69 for gas to be cheaper. even at $3/gallon, so half of todays price, is there anywhere in the country where the marginal price of gas is higher than $2.07/therm? EIA data shows some states, in some recent years, where this is true, but they are not really common.
