White residue in heat exchanger
What causes the white residue that is down deep in the heat exchanger? This was on a boiler I serviced yesterday the residue does clean out no problem.

Indicates that you have proper combustion. The "white frosting on the cake" is a byproduct of combustion that lets you know that you are not making soot but are very close to the proper air fuel mixture. If there were any less combustion air you may start to get incomplete combustion and make soot. But you are not there yet. So clean the fan on the oil burner so it delivers the the same amount of combustion air next season. Clean any dust off of the air inlet also. Someone has that adjusted just right. Don't mess it up!

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?
