Mystery pipe

in THE MAIN WALL

I have a two pipe vapor system that has a 76 vent on the return line to boiler. Also, there is a vertical pipe coming out below the basement ceiling about 8 inches long. It’s the same size dia as the return line to the boiler. I don’t know what it’s for if anything. Please advise.

    we're going to need more information than that. in theory the vent on the return can be just an open pipe.

    @magewick Pictures maybe? I looked at some of the pictures in some of your other posts, I don't see anything like you describe here.

    unable to find the other end - the pipe is in somewhere in the wall. held a flame to the pipe end while boiler is running - flame is steady - no movement.

    that looks like an abandoned pipe. The end was cut with a hacksaw or sawzall
