Looking for recommendations for radiator steam vent for my one pipe system.

Some of the vents in my 100 year old house were probably installed back in the 40's or 50's and they still work fine. But, any newer vents don't seem to last and the ones offered at the big box stores are just as bad. At the beginning of each heating season my father in law would take all the vents off and boil them in a pot of vinegar. Maybe I should do the same.
