Air Scoop or Air Separator
Big difference in price. Much difference in performance? Simply put is it worth it. Assuming they do the same thing.

There’s no comparison. A micro bubble resorber (air separator) works 10 times better.
A word of caution: only use an MBR on a system with a bladder expansion tank; never use it on a system with a compression tank.
When you have a bladder tank you want an air removal device; with a compression tank, you want air management that moves air to the top of the tank to maintain its air cushion.
A standing cast iron radiator is the best air removal device there is, so I don’t install MBRs on these.

Many of the scoop type air eliminators that come across this list are not installed with 18-24" of straight pipe upstream. That lessens the efficiency of the scoop, as does over-pumping them..
I think if you install high efficiency type boilers, mod cons, then a microbubble type separator is critical.
Microbubbles against the paper thin metals used in some or the mod con designs need to be covered with water, not bubbles.
Considering the overall cost of a new boiler installation, adding a microbubble purger is a small cost adder.

At the Caleffi factory lab we have a test bench that allows us to inject a known amount of air, and measure what is discharged from the air separator.
I've not seen a chart or test like this for a ramp type scoop?
