Turning off power to minisplits

I have several fujitsu single zone minisplits. I use these for air conditioning and shoulder season heating.

These units draw about 40W when the temperature is low and they are otherwise off; I presume this is for some sort of drip-pan or compressor heater.

My questions are:

For the deep winter when these units will not be used at all, is it safe to completely turn off power?

Does having this small heater on provide any benefits, eg protecting the compressor in any way?

If I do shut off power, how long should I wait after turning the power on before I operate the unit?

Thanks

Jonathan

Could be a crankcase heater to keep the compressor warm and keep the liquid refrigerant out of the compressor. No harm killing power but they used to recommend 24hour CCH warm up before starting. Probably doesn't need to be that long but it is what it is.

leave them energized. Under the right conditions the refrigerant will migrate to the compressor and lift the oil up and out of it.

I live in Eastern CT and have 5 Fujitsu heads with 3 on one condenser and two on another. They are on all winter with hydronic oil fired backup. They only time they are off is when no heat or A/C is needed.
