Trane HP condensers delivered to site without circuit boards

I serve on a church building expansion project (retired engineer) and have concerns about missing control PCB's in Trane heat pump condensers. These are Trane 4TWR condensers, delivered to the site several months ago but the internal control circuit boards were either never installed or were removed before delivery. Our electric service is now connected and the mechanical sub arrived to complete the installation but discovered the missing parts. The PCB mounting screws were intact, however. When the replacement parts are reinstalled, is there anything we should ask the contractor to check to ensure we have the correct equipment, e.g. no mismatch?

Not really sure how to answer this query. Quality control at the Trane Factory dictates that the equipment left the factory with all the necessary parts needed for operation. From my experience, working in a supply house for a few years a long time ago, there are some special customers that purchase a high volume from us, so we may from time to time open up a good piece of equipment and remove a part from that unit to get this VIP customer the needed part at once, then order the replacement part and put the pirated part back on so we could sell the unit as new equipment. So it may have been a situation like that and the part replacement never got put back on the equipment.

You also indicated that the equipment has been in storage at your location for some time. That would make it possible that something similar happened to your unit after you accepted delivery. Does the installing contractor have access to your storage location that would lend itself to parts pirating with the intention to replace that part before installation?

Finally there may just be pilferage.  Someone took the part with no intention of replacing it. Regardless of the cause, the bottom line is that you paid for a working piece of equipment and now that you are ready for the install to do the job, someone (not you) needs to get the part from the factory and install the part in order to get you up and running.  The Factory for the most part would have no problem providing the replacement part under the warranty terms, or the contractor should make good on the parts needed at no extra cost to you.

As far as needing anything other than the missing part, there should be no problem getting the proper part as long as you provide the model and serial number of the equipment.  Trane knows what part is needed and the only special adjustments that may be needed are the adjustments required for any new equipment installation that is part of the manufacturer’s instructions and included in the agreement you made to have the equipment installed.

    Hope this answers your query

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

The did it happen before/after it was on site is why contracts usually have a clause that says the contractor is responsible for protecting the equipment during construction so it doesn't end up with an argument about who has to replace it.

"These are Trane 4TWR condensers, delivered to the site several months ago..."

Locked in a trailer or garage? Cameras?

    Any word from the confessional?

As far as the replacement circuit boards, as long as they were ordered through Trane or Wallwork Group with the model and serial numbers of the condensers, then the correct boards will be delivered. Connections are plug n play.

sounds like @EdTheHeaterMan is right about they got borrowed to solve some other problem and someone lost track of replacing them.

we used to do stuff like that and much worse at the computer store I worked at.
