I’m replacing my Boiler

I’m a new home owner I’m replacing my gas fired steam boiler. Please give me your suggestions.

My 106,000 BTU New Yorker died and I need a replacement. I’m trying to supply heat to a 150 Sq ft house.

Should I go with the similar capacity Williamson or should I stick with the New Yorker? Also, should I consider Crown boilers.

    Crown. Best customer support ever

First thing, you mentioned 150 SqFt. that is a very small home. Maybe 10 x 15 for the entire home? I have seen walk in closets that large in some customer's homes.

Next: I the boiler actually steam or hot water? Some folks make that mistake. Just because you have radiators does not mean you have steam. If there is a circulator pump near your boiler, then you have hot water. If you have a sight glass to view the water level of the boiler, then you have steam.

    Assuming you have steam:

    1. Don't assume that you have the correct size boiler. Have a professional installer measure the connected radiation. If they tell you that is not needed, then don't purchase anything from them, they don't know anything about steam heat.
    2. Have the contractor show you photos of their previous steam boiler jobs. If they don't have previous steam jobs, then they may not be the best choice for you. You don't want someone to learn how not to install a steam boiler using your home.
    3. Where are you located? there is a Find A Contractor link at the top of this page. There may be a knowledgable Steam contractor near you.
    4. The steam boiler installed properly is not cheap.

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

a 150 square foot home? You must have left a zero off.

As Wd mentioned, a steam boiler must be sized to match the radiation, not the heat loss or the square footage of the house.

You stated " died and I need a replacement ".

    So it is leaking ?

Or is it dead for some other reason ?
