the installation manual has that info, uf it is plain water.

If it has chemicals or glycol, use the product manual

For stainless type boilers, chloride level is critical, TDS also.

They do say to use drinking water, but they also say the range should be 6.5 to 9.5 and that you should monitor the pH and other stuff.

After what I've seen, I would use an additive to get it to 9 or so.

We have had discussions with Viessmann on behalf of the "Drinking water" recommendations mentioned in the older version installation instructions…

They updated the recommendations due to a better understanding of proper system fluid recommendations which is based on all of the materials utilized in modern hydronic heating systems.

The terminology "Drinking water" is very vague as it could also be sourced from a well with a very high mineral content which can cause many issues with the equipment.

As per some of the standards:

The PH is best around 8.2 to 8.4 and the conductivity below 100 Micro Siemens as per the VDI 2035

As per the American ANSI H1001.1-2021 Table B.2 recommendations with "High Purity" water Quality without the use of Chemical Additives see the following recommedations:

Apperance : Clear,no color or Turbidity

    Chloride: Less that 30ppm

Conductivity measured at 77F : 10 to 29 Micro Siemens at 0.1 mg/l of Oxygen ingress

30 to 99 Micro Siemens at 0.05 mg/l of Oxygen ingress

100 to 1500 Micro Siemens at 0.02 mg/l of Oxygen ingress

As you may notice the less O2/Oxygen ingress the system has the higher the conductivity can be !

PH: 7.5-8.5 for systems containing aluminium

    8.0-9.3 for copper based systems.

    8.2-10 for ferrous based systems.

Although i strongly disagree with some of the recommendations that some of the manufacturers are making one should »»ALLWAYS !«« adhere to their recommendations in order to keep their Warranty in place.
