First Time Homeowner - B20 Diesel Replaced with Diesel - is that ok?

i am a first time homeowner and i have an oil tank that ran on B20 with the previous owner for our boiler. i want to avoid buying the minimum amount of oil which is 150 gallons and just get regular diesel. is it as simple as getting diesel fuel at the gas station?

Well, yes it isJust that simple. Regular diesel can be substituted in any system suitable for B20, although the reverse isn't always true.
However… that diesel from the gas station includes a road tax, and by the time you've bought 150 gallons of it you'll have paid a good bit more than you would have had you saved up and bought 150 gallons of heating oil… and, unless you have a certificate that you are using it for off-road purposes (almost impossible for a homeowner to get) you're not going to get that tax back.

thank you! I appreciate it, I just did not want to break my boiler which is older. As for 150 from the gas station, I would get 10 gallons or so to get me through the next week! Thanks again.

There are some fuel stations that sell off road diesel that contractors will fill their construction equipment with. It will have the purple dye. I operated a gas station with such a fuel pump.

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?
