Looking to replace old air vents in home, anything special about these?

I’m just a green HVAC tech but have been looking to improve my system at home. I’m looking to replacing all these air vents but boy they’re old…is there anything special about them I don’t know? They’re just normal manual air valves correct? This is a simple closed loop baseboard system with an expansion tank, I’ve had someone at work tell me I don’t need them at all. I figure it’s always good to ask experts before tinkering with the dead men’s work!

They look like air towers...You're not gonna find them...Replace with coin vents. Hit them all with WD 40 first..Mad Dog

I would wait another month or so before attempting this task. If or when something goes wrong, you'll have time to fix it!

Have a 1/8" tap available.
Small pipe wrench

Box wrenches.

What type of expansion tank do you have? Bladder or plain steel compression?

Do not use automatic air vents with a plain steel compression tank.

You'll never get the WD to travel up into the threads…………………

Hit them all with a torch to expand them………….then you won't break anything.

Those look like they may be old fiber seat auto vents. Try cleaning them up with a small wire brush and/or penetrating lube. You may be able to open them with a wrench or pliers.
