hi, hope someone can help. We have a few issues in operating our system and we're not sure it was installed properly at the start.

  1. Floor doesn't feel very warm. Comfortable but not overly warm even if temperature is increased in each room by the thermostat. Doesn't maintain constant temperature.
  2. If temp is increased in one zone the actuators in other areas drop down? Mainly the open plan area.
  3. The communication module has stopped working with the app so we can't change times for room temperatures to go up and down to tie in with peak energy prices.

Sorry, quite a few questions. Finding an engineer in our area is challenging. Installed by builder and team 3 years ago.

    1. If the heat loss of the space is low (well insulated), the floor may not "feel" warm ever. This is common.
    2. Actuators are wired wrong if opening when not called upon.
    3. I don't know about the app

How about posting some pics of the setup?

Turning the temperature up and down is not recommended with a radiant floor. Set it and forget it is the best and most efficient strategy.

the temperature on the thermostat on the wall is a good indication if the radiant is working adequately. If you set it to 70 and the room gets to 70, it is working. The floor may or may not feel skin temperature or warmer.

Radiant systems controlled by automatic outdoor reset controls may allow the floors to get or feel warmer on the coldest days.

Are all the zones able to maintain room temperature on the coldest days days?

There is a misconception that radiant floors feel "hot."

Floor surface temps with radiant will be in the range of 70-75F, you skin temp is between 80-82F, so it feels cold.

Without radiant floor heating, the floor surface temp is usually between 60 and 65F, so yes, the floor will be warmer with radiant but not "hot"

I also try not to pay alot of time to the air temp, turn it up or down until you fell comfortable. Cover the digital display with some painters tape and adjust….don't peek. do this for about a week and now you will have a basepoint.

The radiant in my house feels comfortable to me at and air temp 69F, but at my in-laws, they like it at 73.

It will also depend upon the thermostat being used, you want tight or small differential setting or at least one design for hydronic floor heating. A basic warm air stat has wide differentials and therefore creates a wide air temp in the house and the radiant floor could be off for hours cooling down while the air stat is still within the band.

Thank you for all your responses,. We do set the temp at a constant. Only the rooms that aren't in use all the time are changed when we have visitors. On windy days the main living room doesn't stay at temperature, even though we have a new fully insulated home.

Will need to get the wiring checked as suggested this was also our thoughts. The app is working, but not connecting to the Uponor Cloud which is impacting on functionality. We have a call in with Uponor for an engineer to call about this. Only waiting 4 days so far. 😞
