I was born in 1952. No, I'm not a steam radiator vent.

Is that one of those thermostatic radiator vents that is sort of a trv and a vent all in one?

Not a Paul, air line or vacuum vent/trap.

Not a TRV or any temperature-selecting radiator vent.

    It's a Maid-O-Mist No. 95 Auto-Vent Humidifier. 1952.

Screwed into your radiator's vent tapping, it shared the system's refreshing steam with you via an asbestos filter.

Here's a photo of the insides (with the asbestos filter removed) :

Here's a the Patent illustration of what's inside:

Probably could get away withit with the huge chunks of iron they called boilers in those days.

Gonna have to take a hard pass on asbestos filtration though.

If I had to choose…I'd prefer moist asbestos over the dry varieties!

Was it "Kent" cigarettes that had the "Micronite" filter?

I recall cutting the filter apart and there was a small mini filter ahead of the standard filter. It was thought to be the finest imported asbestos available.

    BTW, would have been dry.
