Odd request

Hello gentlemen
I recently retired but still work sort of as a consultant for my last employer.
they called me to figure out some wiring. I met with the foreman and the home owner. Here is what the homeowner is demanding. Currently he has hot water baseboard and 3 zones. He added central air AC with a 10 kw strip heater. The homeowner only wants to use his current stat for the first floor. It’s a Honeywell Th6. He wants the baseboard and the 10kw heater to come on at the same time on a heat call. That same stat will control the AC also. One more thing he wants a switch on th air handler to turn it off and just use the bbd. I’ll say it for you.. why do you want to do that? Why not put another stat or stat with a sensor for the heat. He doesn’t want another stat. They are using a Taco zone panel. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. The homeowner has been hard to deal with. Says a guy at work told him to just loop the AHU and the zone panels together. I explained you will buck 2 transformers. He said the stat is battery operated. I had to show him the transformers are in the equipment. Again thank you
Steve

the thermostat in question that needs to do 100 different things should operate a relay
Then you need the relay to have 100 different contacts to do the hundred different things at the same time
LOL.
Anyway, if you need to do 3 different things at the same time, you can use a triple pole double throw relay . That way you can turn stuff off and other stuff on with that one thermostat

Anything can be done with enough relays.
Put a separate transformer in for the FF stat. Have the stat pull in a couple of heat relays 1 for the baseboard and 1 for the electric strip heat and a cooling relay and a fan relay if you want.
You can probably use RIB RIBU1C relays. The heat relays pull in from w fan relay from G and cooling from y.
I don't see any issue.

If I get your situation request
One single stage thermostat will make the TT contacts on the Taco zone panel and the heat in the AHU.
There also needs to be a manual switch to disable the AHU based on the the customer’s expert inclination and thermodynamic experience.
Is that about right?
If yes. I have an idea on how to do this with one DPDT relay like the RIB2401 and a toggle switch
I can draw the diagram after the Eagles 🦅win this playoff game

Assumption about the air handler and air conditioner:
- Single stage air conditioner
- Legacy Thermostat wiring for air handler / AC = R-G-Y-W-C from thermostat (C is optional to thermostat)
- One stage heat on thermostat
- There is an existing heat relay on the air handler to operate the resistance heat and blower on a call for heat.
- I did not include the outdoor unit for AC since there is no change to that part of the system circuits
Here is the existing Generic air handler and thermostat on the upper left
The rest of the diagram shows addition of the RIB2401D and a simple toggle switch.
The RIB2401D is operated by the white wire from the thermostat. One set of contacts will operate the air handler if the toggle switch is turned on. the other set of contacts on the RIB2401D will operate the zone appropriate baseboard zone on the Taco Zone Panel.
This will not work on "Communicating" thermostat systems. This will only work on a "Legacy" thermostat wiring

No taking days off from work just to watch a football game.
These people need heat LOL😊

We did it exactly as you drew it. It’s up and running. Thank you.
this was an odd request and the truth finally got out. His wife spilled it. This guy is a real know it all. He decided to install his own baseboard heat. Well, let’s just say he is a lot short throughout the house. Instead of adding baseboard, his solution was to throw 10kw of heat in his air handler.
I retired 8 months ago. Customers like this make me happy I did. It’s done and the company got paid. Mission accomplished.
How about Sequan. That man can control the whole game. Great to see a PSU grad do so wellThank you

He should only need the electric when the outdoor temperature drops below the baseboard's capacity. That's why he needed to have only one thermostat. When people ask "Why 2 thermostats?" he will have to admit his mistake. We can't have that!
GO BIRDS!

You could definitely have used a 2 stage stat and put the air handler on the second stage in that case.
