B@J Big Mouth Serviceability

Can the B@J Bigmouth main vents be taken apart?

Noticed a slight hiss then stop while in operation more than once on same call for heat.

it appears the face and body are one piece rendering it unserviceable however with the price of that bad boy it would be designed for internal parts replacement.

If serviceable, how would it be taken apart?

yes it is serviceable .You just have to remove the cap the trap element pops out and the sealing o ring is between it .I ve had a issue or two similar to yours and contact them and received a few elements and replacement o ring . It seems that the element is usually good but the o ring is waht is not setting correctly . As expensive as it may seem you would be spend twice as much for the same venting cap using a gorton #2 which you would need at least 3 to equal . So changing a trap element and a o ring occasionally is vastly cheaper then replacing a gorton vent completely ?

    peace and good luck clammy

I have rebuilt mine, the oring that I have found to work best is this one from McMaster Carr

Since it is based on a trap, you unscrew the cover and simply replace the oring.

I got it off using some manly measures, found what appears to be dried antiseize inside the body and evidence of steam leak.

Installed new high temp orings, cleaned all threads/antiseize and retightened hand tight plus half turn with a couple wrenches.

    Hello Wcurtis,

If you want to see some pictures of my Big Mouth modification, here is the link, pictures start about half way down, some other comments about why throughout the thread. I used two sockets 1-3/4 inch (cap) and 1-7/16 inch (to hold the body) to take it apart and not chew it up with other wrench types. The spud wrench is 5/8 hex for other curious folks.

    Mad Dog,

I don’t want to jinx anything because I’’m alittle superstitious but yes as of now they are holding.

    Thanks for asking
