Seeking Tekmar 279 remote consultant

Hi,

I've been trying to find someone local to help me with tuning my Tekmar 279, but unfortunately, I haven't had much luck getting responses from anyone who knows the system. I'm hoping to hire a remote expert who can guide me on the best settings to use for my Tekmar 279. I'll also share near-real-time temperature reports from eight thermostats (one outdoors and seven indoors in various locations). I'm not aiming for perfection in this unbalanced system—just looking for advice on settings that would optimize my setup as much as possible.

here is the live feed:

Sensors:

Outdoor

Indoor (next to Tekmar 076 indoor sensor)

Channel 1=2nd floor room

Channel 2=2nd floor room

Channel 3=First floor room

Channel 4=3rd floor room

Channel 5=2nd floor room

Channel 6=near steam main

Channel 7=3rd floor room (I would think this is the last on the main. room is either the hottest or the coldest)

Channel 8=2nd floor room

It's a 2-pipe system.

Current Tekmar settings:

Room target: 63 degrees (this is an interior room that runs colder than just about every other room). I can move the indoor sensor if i need to.

Outdoor design: 10 degrees (located in Pittsburgh PA)

Boiler design: 90%

Indoor design 70 degrees

Cycle: 60

Steam established: 100 degrees (measured when steam hit farthest condensate line)

Lockout diff: 20 degrees

WWSD: 65 degrees

I can do venmo, etc.

Thanks. Does what I am asking for make sense and is it achievable to do via remotely?

I am familiar with Tekmar outdoor reset control and how they work on water filled radiators.   The concept that you can use outdoor reset with a steam system is a little out of my wheelhouse.  And the fact that your system is  not properly balanced makes this even harder to understand how it will work to save you energy and/or boiler operating time.  The best thing that I can come up with for getting your system properly balanced is the use of thermostatic radiator valves (TRV) that can stop the steam from entering radiators in overheated rooms and allow the steam to continue to flow to the cooler rooms.   That would allow tenants of overheating rooms to turn down the heat as opposed to opening a window when the room gets too hot.

I might think that some of the other members that work on steam systems in larger metropolitan areas, like @clammy or @RayWohlfarth or @Ironman or @STEAM DOCTOR, might have more experience with this particular Tekmar Control and better be able to help you get the system tweaked for you.   If I had the knowledge, I would be glad to help, but it would be a learning curve for me to understand the ins & outs of that concept and that particular control.

Good luck finding someone for your project.

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?
