pressure modulation

I operate a 50 unit building in NYC. One pipe, scotch marine boiler, industrial combustion burner. A few years ago a mechanic installed an additional pressuretrol that controls the modulator motor. In the past the system would build pressure, off at 2.5psi on at 0.5psi until the cycle is complete. Now it gets up to the 2.5psi and maintains this pressure for the duration of the cycle. The system is controlled by Heat Timer MPC Platinum set for 30 minute cycles, recommended for convector radiation. So system can run 20 minutes (and longer) at 2.5psi non stop. Is operating one way over the other more efficient? beneficial? or not correct? thank you community!

In a setting like that, I'd say that the way you are operating is the best and most efficient. Most power boilers are operated that way. And, for that matter, back in the early days of steam heat the higher end coal fired boilers also tried to maintain constant steam pressure using draught controls.
