What is the water pressure in the system, and how many stories in the house?

Some pictures of boiler showing pump(s) and controls would help.

You have a steel compression tank in the ceiling joist.
Turn the thermostat all the way up for a couple of hours to drive all the air out of the system.

Tank been drained recently?

has the system been worked on recently, boiler pressure dropped off?
What is the pressure at the boiler.
Often times you need to purge a loop, venting the radiators will not move a bubble in the piping.
Frozen pipes possibly?
