I used 3/8 rope gasket on this 4 section smith 19, how do you know what you’re supposed to use the manufacturer doesn’t say in the paper work. I’ve used 1/2 before because I didn’t think it was right and my senior tech made me go back and change all it out.

Update for future reference: 3/8 rope per manufacturer on 19A series

The proper rope should have come with the assembly kit.

That's a good point. This is too important to not know. Who supplied the boiler? Get a hold of them and make sure they send the corrcect rope gasket.

I used to keep a coil of 5/8 in the van. Sure it was maybe too big for some applications but it worked in so many places where the seals were gone. I hated seeing jobs where the gaskets were replaced with gobs of furnace cement. If it seals you're good. But of course you often have to do as the lead says. Unless of course it's dangerous of a violation.

If the rope is too big then the gaskets that seal the water between the sections may not seal. You also have to torque all the threaded rods to the correct torque and sequence. It's in the manual.
