Power vent heater

I have a power vent water heater which I think made a strange sound today for about two seconds.

I was thinking it could be the draft inducer's motor / fan assembly. I put my hand on the motor

while it was running and it seemed pretty hot.

So I'm wondering if that's normal ?

Id prefer to use numbers rather than "feels hot" because we have no way of knowing what that means.

Do you have an IR thermometer?

Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

Good point, no I don't but, I have to remove my hand after twenty seconds or it will start to burn.

    So maybe 135* ?

I have a temperature strip sticky that came with my mixing valve, I'll put that on it and see.

Short of letting it run another half hour it looks like it topped off at 125* surface temperature.

And the cooling fan is blowing air.

Just a bump, I would say this is normal, anyone disagree ?

    Good ideas guy's, thanks..

It wasn't as dirty as it looked but I cleaned it anyway.

Running at that temperature 120/125* it was drawing 2.26 amps… at 64* room temp..

Drawing 2.26 and rated for 2.8 Not bad. ASSUMING the voltage is 115.
