venting out side wall of straw bale house
I have a customer who needs boiler replaced soon. its cast iron, b-vent through the roof.
Id like to propose mod/con. existing vent is only 5" double wall.
Anyone have experience drilling through side wall of straw bale house? Is it up to code, does it need to be lined with larger pipe? etc…thx

I ASSUME the same clearances to combustibles applies.
I would ask the Authority having Jurisdiction just to be safe.0 -
A 3" PVC vent vertical thru the roof using the B-vent as a sleeve will also work. You can use the space between the PVC and the B-vent as the air inlet. There WAS a kit that Weil McLain used to sell for this purpose Part Number 382-200-435 no longer sold.
But you can make one out of regular parts that you can get from the local supplier
This place may still have one in stock.

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

I would much prefer a roof vent option, as Ed suggested. Unless multiple appliances are vented into the B-vent?
CentroTherm and others have liners for B-vent to mod con conversions.
