Honeywell T9 Display

It is my understanding that the large number in the center of the display is showing the actual temperature detected by the sensor in the thermostat regardless of any set schedule. However, today I decided to change the temperature of the currently active schedule by increasing the desired temperature from 70 to 72. Within a few seconds the large number in the display changed from 70 to 72 - and stayed there! I was surprised. I thought that number was only displaying the "measured" temperature by the active sensor (the thermostat itself in this case). I don't know why I never noticed this behavior before. It's like the thermostat display is lying to me to treat me like an idiot. Does anyone know what's going on here. Is there a hidden configuration item to tell the thermostat to always display the measured temperature. I am smart enough to know what the "desired" temperature is set to.

It does, the heat from your body increased the temperature of the thermostat ….

All digital thermostats lie about the temperature. As the furnace comes on and off, the air temperature goes up and down. The thermostat averages the highs & lows and that's the temp it displays. There's no secret setting to get it to display the actual temperature either. It makes sense from a mfgr's point of view, because most (Well, perhaps just many. Or even just some) people are idiots and will raise h#!! if the stat doesn't show the right number.

I can think of a few things that could explain what you saw. It could have been that you changed the temp up not long after the furnace stopped running and the air temp was slightly higher than the displayed temp, so the stat just increased its displayed temp. It also could be that the thermostat is confident that it'll be able to reach the new set point during the next on cycle or two, so it went ahead & raised the displayed number. Or like @Big Ed_4 said, the heat from your body influenced the stat. Or some combination thereof.

The real question is: are you comfortable?
