The time it takes to fill the main has a lot to do with the time it takes to heat the main along with venting. The steam won't progress until that part of the main is steam hot no matter how much venting there is.

Or even on the pipe side of the radiator, if that is easier.

Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

I agree with you but I really don't have an unmanageable problem and had to get the Ventrite's just to be able to keep them slow enough as is.

@mattmia2 I also agree with you as well…

Feel bad that this seems to have hijacked the OP's thread. My intent was just to get some further insight into how much actual pickup many folks had in larger and smaller abodes as a percentage of their standing radiation.

I’m going to defer to my installers recommendation (highly regarded Boston area pro from here), of the EG40 for 315ish EDR, installs in 2 weeks.

I timed my boiler cycle on to closing of main vents as 7 min out of a 25 min cycle, so pretty close to 30% with insulated mains and multiple gorton main vents. Basement eventually will be insulated and finished, possible small addition down the line, feels like the right size. Will post back with post install results!

Sorry, you lost me. What’s the 30% number that you calculated by timing your main vents?

I went back and read your first post and I think you are under the mistaken impression that your time calculations have determined your piping’s losses.
