Hot water baseboard pipes/fins etc.

Hello. When my boiler is circulating, I hear the usually tap tap ting of the baseboard pipes that I’m used to but recently, I’ve started hearing what sounds like a faint high pitched ting. Almost sounds like the sound a DVD makes when it’s starting to spin lol. It’s def a copper sound but I don’t recall it ever doing this ting that I have noticed. That being said…do copper pipes on these wear out or get pinholes? 55y old system, gas, American Standard, slantfin bases. ☺️

If I were to replace the boiler, what is the best brand nowadays? I don’t need top of the line cost wise just something basic that will last. No combi boilers, I want the same style I have now.

Copper pies don't really wear out, although they can — and do — get pinhole leaks. But that wouldn't be a ting or a ping. More likely something shifted just a little bit — just enough to make a new noise. Houses do…

On the boiler. First, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Second, there really is no one best brand — there are a number of very good ones. Third, the best bet is to get one which the installer knows well and likes to work with; installation is about 80 to 90 percent of satisfaction. And last, do a thorough check of how much heat you really need. With hot water heat, it's the heat loss of the house that counts — and changes may have been made which will change that since the old girl was installed.

Thanks for the noise perspective. Far as replacement I’m only looking into it because I have had trouble with homeowners insurance and getting companies to write on the house. It’s a standard rancher but they’re acting like it’s from outer space. One refused to quote due to my solar, another due to the distance from my left hand side neighbor, a different one for rust on the CASE of the boiler, and yet another for roof “condition” even though it’s only 5 years old and totally fine, while another didn’t even respond to my agents request for a quote. The current company tried to fight us to not write the policy due to the age of the boiler then the underwriter gave in. That company raised my rate this year (had them since 2021) $700 for no reason at all, and did the same with the cars so we had to jump ship. It’s insane. 😳
