Kriebel Vapor System

Hey guys I was called to consult on a steam system that's been very troublesome. It's a Kriebel vapor system. They have these special radiator valves and union return elbows with baffles. A couple radiator valves were replaced with standard valves and return elbows replaced with standard ones. They have the original Kriebel air vent still connected and it spit a crazy amount of water. There running about 7psi. I will install a vaporstat. My question is can I remove the existing Kriebel air vent and install a master venting setup? Also the knucklehead who removed these return elbows with baffles should I use a steam trap or orifice plates from tunstall? Thank you

Paul S

These are the original radiator valves and return union elbows.

If you don't have the old Kriebel elbows then you have to have steam traps on there. Oh well. Particularly without the old valves, since the new ones have no throttling capability (if they mixed and matched, you might get away with putting steam traps on the radiators with new valves and putting the Kriebel elbows from those on the radiators which still have the original valves? Just a thought…

You can use a modern steam vent. I'd suggest at least one Gorton #2.

And oh yes you do need a vapourstat. That system should never run over 7 to 8 ounces gauge.

ive also got a Kriebel which has been modified over the years. The only reason I know its a Kriebel is I found the baffle in the return elbow. The original valves and venting were replaced long before it was mine.

Listen to @Jamie Hall ’s advice and do exactly what he tells you to. Ive done everything hes told me to do and it’s always made the system run better than it had before
