Dining Room Radiator Refurb

I picked up this dining room radiator four years ago. At the time it was plumbed into a hot water system and I imagine not working too well. I piped it into (mostly) one pipe steam system sometime thereafter and finally sandblasted and bronzed it as part of my (slow! one man) kitchen renovation. Plenty more to do to get the kitchen online but I thought this group would appreciate the radiator!

Thanks,

Patrick

Lovely. How did you bronze it? A bronze powder in some kind of paint base?

Nice! And is the expression on your kid's face his reaction to having to help move it? 😓

Would love to find a few for the kitchen

Bryant 245-8 2-pipe steam in a 1930s 6-unit 1-story apt building in the NM mountains.  26 radiators heating up 3800sqf.

That's beautiful! But does it heat well? Usually if the air vent is on the same side as the supply valve, the vent will close when steam fills the first section, preventing most of the radiator from heating.

Hey Frank- yep, these kids are well versed in lugging around radiators by now! 🤣

bburd- the tappings were for a 2 pipe steam system so you're seeing the vent on the condensate return side. Most of my system is 1 pipe but I've essentially repiped the whole kit and kaboodle and have accommodated a couple of radiators utilizing drips to make up for an otherwise undersized supply taping. Admittedly not ideal but it works fine and it's a price I'm willing to pay for aesthetics! 😁

    Thanks,

    Patrick

Absolutely LOVE these! I feel like they are one of the "holy grail" items many of us living in old homes would love to have.

They are a blast from the past and a sure conversation piece.

    Great work!

That looks great Patrick!! I would like to understand more about how you prepped for the bronzing and also what bronzing is and how that is completed.
