Melt it. Get the surface temp high enough that it evaporates naturally.

Having done tjhis every year myself-

If your going to use a large weed burning torch you have to use enough heat to dry the sidewalk as will refreeze and return to ice.

Its either that or use a great deal of rock salt to create heat to melt it.
