Can I still use copper to pipe a new oil tank? And if the original tank was done in copper, do I have to change it to black pipe?

I know of no reason not to except cost.

The local Authority having Jurisdiction has the final say.

You can't have any soldered fitting on an oil system. Surprisingly you can braze them. Black pipe is what you should use for the fill and vent copper with the protective coating for the burner line with flare fittings

I have used 1-1/2" copper for the fill and vent system on an oil tank once. I saw someone else do it so I thought I would try it. I did not like the results. There was a leak in the fill pipe and I needed to re-solder that pipe. But I wouldn't do it, I just went and got Black pipe and fittings to fix the leak. … Last time I ever did that short cut!

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?
