Two transformers on a boiler with two White Rogers zone valves

Hello All,

I have a boiler with an internal transformer and an external one. After replacing one of the zone valves (white rogers 1311-102) the thermostats don't activate the valves. I wired it according to the diagram I found but that shows a single transformer with a center tap and two "hots" so to speak. What would be the reason for two xfmers?

Thanks for any advice

Any one of a number of reasons. Most likely that the boiler's transformer doesn't have the power to operate the zone valves.

A 24 volt transformer with a centre tap is a rather odd duck. What is the source of your wiring diagram? What are the voltages on that transformer between the two "hots" and between either of them and the centre tap?

I think I'm mistaken. I don't think there is an internal transformer. The control unit inside the boiler where the relays are for gas valve and circulator has something mounted under it the looks like a trans former,

I just realized today that i have a 2 wire and a three wire valve. I mis-wired the three wire think it was the same as the two wire.

Now only one zone (2 wire) appears to energize and turns the burner on but not the circulator. I'm going to check some voltage tomorrow. It's a 50 year old boiler and I not sure of the manufacturer.

If I manually activate the 3 wire zone by turning the motor wheel the boiler internal control unit start buzzing (relay chatter??)

I'll post more after I check some voltage.

    Thanks for the reply
