eh? Are you planning to roll your own insert? There are stores in most areas which sell them — and a number of on-line outfits as well. A parts list is going to be pages long.

You really need to start with a level II inspection of the chimneys. This will determine the suitability for application and any repairs required.

You can get twin 3" flex liners down a nominal 8"x12" flue but to get an insulated stainless steel liner down for a wood insert you'll need to either remove the flue tile or use an ovalized flex liner. Offsets can make this almost impossible.

There are many mfrs. with many models with many options. You're asking us to choose a car for you. Gotta' narrow it down. Bring the level II report with fireplace opening measurements to your local hearth retailer. You will also need to figure out how to get a proper gas line into the fireplace. Gas inserts typically get an electrical outlet inside so you can hide the power cord while wood inserts typically get too hot for the wiring.

There is a federal tax credit for wood and pellet stoves tested with a higher heating value of 75% or higher at 30% up to $2K.
