Best Well Water Testing Company
Hello,
I have a friend/client that has a home on a well (the only one in the entire neighborhood that is on a well, the rest on city water).
They have had several events in the past years of copper pipes developing pin hole leaks in the joints/flux areas.
I want a comprehensive test that may help determine root cause and suggest the type of filter systems as a corrective action.
There are so many testing companies out there, so looking for advice from anyone with good experience.
Thanks
jason

Contact your local public health people. If they won't do a simple test for you — which would include pH, which is likely the problem — they can recommend a company near you to do a comprehensive test (and maybe suggest what "comprehensive" should mean in your area.

Hi, leaking at or near soldered connections may be a water quality issue. It also could be the pipe was not de-burred and flow is high enough to create turbulence, causing the leak. Another possibility is flow so high that you're getting erosion corrosion. Also, too much flux has been a cause of leaks, particularly if the solder was not cleaned from the outside of the copper. Finally, if the water is over-softened, the copper isn't getting that thin coating of hardness inside of the pipe, which is protective.
When a leaking connection is cut out, save it and slice it in half. You'll see if the pipe was de-burred, or erosion is happening. And, I agree that the local health department is the right place to start. I've had them do the testing themselves at far less cost than a for profit lab.

google labs in your area, many will test mail in samples
Any water treatment companies in your area, they should have a lab referral
Health department tests are fairly basic, assuring the water is safe
Water quality and electrolysis are two if the main causes of copper pinholes
An electrician could test for stray current, in the piping, another possible cause
Ph strips from a pool chemical supplier is a simple first step
