Biasi B10 vs Buderus …. 2024 which is most bang for the buck?
Homeowner, replacing my 40 yr old HB Smith with Carlson. Works great … but think time. After several contractors and a lot of information from yze guys narrowing down replacement.
House ~ 2300sq, center chimney clay flu, burn ~ 1000 gallons oil yr. 2 heat zones + indirect HW. Reside in Hartford Ct area.
Down to Biasi B10 vs Buderus G115. ( install to include HF-40 indirect either boiler).
Background 2 old retired individuals, probably going to sell in 3-4 years. Not overly interested in increased efficiency. Looking for increased value when selling, (if any), reliabaliy, and bang for the buck.
Contractor has a preference for the Biasi, (actually Thermoflow OWB, but will substitute the Biasi for same price. He has installed many Biasi’s in the past).
He will install the Buderus for an additional $850. He has done many in the past.
The contractor is meticulous and I trust him 99.99%. Work impeccable!
Most reviews I have read about the Biasi are 20 years old. I believe it’s a good reputable boiler.
Right now leaning towards the Biasi … based on price. Nervous about all of the historical comments on the proper set up criteria …. Appears that a lot of technicians deviate manufactures specifications.
what are your dumbed down thoughts as to which boiler you would select.
Thanks

Both good. I prefer Buderus. Best cast iron in the world.

hi …. I am ignorant at this subject. Once I commit he will perform the detailed heat study ….. based on my incomplete design criteria how important at this?
Based on what I provided …. What would be a realistic firing rate?
Thank you for your time

The heat loss calculation will decide what size boiler is needed, and the firing rate for that particular boiler. Both Biasi and Buderus add sections of cast iron to increase the size. The smallest is a 3 section B10-3 or G115-3). And even that is usually oversized for most homes under 2,500 sq ft.
Personally I prefer the Buderus. The Biasi shows a spec'd nozzle size/angle/spray pattern, for a particular setup, and I frequently have a hard time getting the combustion numbers or smoke reading i want. So I usually wind up changing the nozzle to a different angle and spray, and dial it in. The G115 Buderus with an F3 or F5 Riello burner, I've never had issues on setup.
I'm not putting down Biasi. They're good boilers. I just like what I like.
I believe both boilers come with the Hydrostat 3250 Plus operating control. And if the boiler will be providing domestic hot water, then that's where wiring knowledge is needed. Or at least read the manual.

I thank you for your sincere input.

The heat loss calculation will steer you to a smaller a smaller boiler which would save you a couple of dollars . ….
Both are a respectable boiler .. A good installation would show better at opening house …
There was an error rendering this rich post.

It is good you found an installer that is willing to do a heat loss study, this will likely result in a smaller boiler than you have now.
a quick calculation based on your fuel consumption and location says that even the smallest boiler from either manufacturer should be adequate.

Very nice work you have choose wisely in your contractor by the quality of his attention to his craft . Great use of versa bar for proper support of piping something that is usually far and few between used by most contractors in residentials settings . Nice compact piping w everything that most leave out is in there , you did well in choosing your contractor very nice install .
