Will any similar compressor do.

I have a Weather King 10AJA4201that has a grounde compressor. The Air Handler is good. It just needs a well-deserved cleaning. The AC Tech remarked that it was so clogged it returned liquid back to the compressor and that may have been the cause for the failure. It's a R22 compressor which I feel I can get a hold of rather easily with similar characteristics to the condenser Unit nameplate, but is that enough to assure a good fit?

A grounded compressor usually creates Acid in the oil. That is a major clean up or it WILL take the replacement out in short order. Slugging liquid doesn't cause windings to ground!

At 21 years old replace the system

No way. A 21 year old R22 system with a burn out?

It's a lot more than just a compressor replacement. Any talk of a replaceable core suction line drier with the HVAC Tech? That should've been part of the conversation. And you know it will need virgin refrigerant, right? R22 is $$$.

Contactor, relay, capacitor, even ECM blower motor, I would say go with the repair. But a burn out?

It's over 20 years old and just blew burned oil and junk all through the entire system.

    It's time for all new.
