Boiler change

Hi, I have an Firebird 90 26kw oil burner and I want to upgrade to a new condenser one. Would a new warmflow 26kw one be the correct one to change to? Thanks

Are you in the U.K., and is Firebird manufactured in Ireland?

I took a 2 hour class about 20 years ago on them, but haven't seen one since. I thought they were condensing oil fired boilers. Maybe not your model.

But to answer your question, we need to ask questions. Like, how do you know the 26kw Firebird was the correct size? In the States, we use Manual J, which is a heat loss calculation. Even if the Firebird was properly sized, was there any improvements to the dwelling like insulation, windows, etc.? If so, it might be oversized now.

Will the new boiler also be providing domestic hot water?

When going from a non condensing boiler to a condensing boiler, it will require a new exhaust, and combustion air piping.

    Thanks for replying. Appreciate it.

I'm in the north of Ireland, so technically the UK but I have no idea where the boiler is manufactured. But yea the boiler is a real antique. Probably older than me to be honest, but they are very common here and last for years. Mine is just needing too much maintenance and parts replaced so it's time for an upgrade.

I have no idea when the boiler was fitted but it's been there for some time. The house has two outhouses with 3 additional radiators and an extension with an extra one as well so 11 in total.

Theres double glazing fitted but not recently, but I would imagine it was after the current boiler was installed. And there is additional insulation in the roof space as well so I suppose like you said that could be considered.

And yes the boiler will be heating water as well as the current one does.

For reference: here is a same-brand same-rating condensing boiler:

26KW is about 80,000btu, so not a silly size; but twice what my house needs. The link for Brochure on that page lists many other shapes sizes and models. There's a lot of fine print there which you can talk about with a local design expert.
