Drop header

Hey all, we are installing two new steam boilers along with a drop header. The header consists of a 6 inch pipe caped at both ends. I will have both boilers connected at 6 inches away from the end, one at both ends and 2 steam outlets to the building 18 inches away from those. Also, I will have a drip leg c/w steam trap directly underneath boiler header connections. Does anyone see any issues with what I am planning to do.

That won't work right. Any water that the drip legs don't catch will travel toward the system take-offs.

The right way is just like we'd pipe a boiler. Start at one end of the header with your two boiler lines. Then connect the two steam mains, and end with a single drip leg. I'd make the drip leg 2". Pitch the whole header down from the first boiler connection to the drip leg.

Ok so if I understand correctly it would be better to have both boiler connections at one end and the building connections at the other end with single drip leg with proper sloap.

sim, how is the condensate water returning to the boilers?

Thru a condensate tank which is vented to outside.

You need to pipe EACH boiler with its own header as shown in the MFG drawing. Then pipe from each boiler header to a common building header to feed the building.

So in total you need 3 headers if you want it to work right.

I call those the Mad Dog Bazooka Header. With a 6" Trunk line, go with a 2 1/2" drip minimum. Send us final results. Mad Dog 🐕
