Difference between brewery and space heating steam systems, this Friday's video

This weeks video explains the difference between the steam systems for breweries and those for space heating. It's sometimes confusing because while both are steam, they are much different.I will get back to a new case next week.

For me, there is very little difference between steam used for heating and steam used for a process. Maybe, I am from the "old school" where you utilized what you had or maybe I spent too much time in high pressure steam plants where the operating pressure was normally at least 100 PSIG or more and it did almost everything. There, the only difference was the steam pressure required to do the job and how that pressure was produced or reduced. The steam was produced in the boiler, sent out and utilized at the required pressure, the steam condensed and was collected and sent back to the boiler to be reused. A main concern was the return of as much of the condensate as possible with little to no make-up water needed. !00% water return was the goal that was rarely realized.

@retiredguy I agree steam is steam but what I find interesting is the space heating systems rely on the latent heat and brewery systems are more concerned with the temperature to heat the wort as quickly as possible

Here is the link to this weeks video, The difference between space heating and a brewery steam system. While they are both steam systems, they are much different I hope you enjoy this one.

Can't a low pressure heating boiler run at 13 psi?

Aren't there condensate stations that avoid the issue of flash?

Yes and yes. But we have a couple brewery customers, and I tell them to use the absolute minimum pressure that will do the job. This not only saves fuel but also minimizes flash steam.

@Steamhead @jumperExactly If its too close to 15 psi, you could trip the manual reset limit or open the pop safety
