Point of use hwh

I have a customer with a small 110v plug in point of use water heater that services one bathroom lav sink.

For some reason it needs to be replaced about every 6 - 8 months or so.

The water here in Florida is pretty bad and the guy has a water softener to get rid of all the sediment. So I can eliminate that as an issue.

Not sure if it could be electrical or something else that I'm missing? Any thoughts on the topic 🤔

Hi, Is it a glass-lined tank? If so, softening is what may be doing it in. Over-softened water can quickly eat up the anode in the tank. You want to leave 60 to 120 ppm of calcium and magnesium hardness in the water after softening. A clue that the anode is working too hard is gas at the tap on first use. Also, check pressure. 40-60 psi is best. It could be electrical also, so you have a few things to look at. Is the tank grounded? Is there a jumper between hot and cold lines if they are metal?

The anode rods in the POU tanks typically is tiny…like pencil.

The hot and cold supply lines are 3/8" braided steel. Not sure if they need a a ground connection between them?
