Carrier heat pumps

Reliability is my first priority.

Does anyone have Carrier geo experience to help me consider versus Enertech which would be my primary alternative? My HVAC sub's preferred distributor is a Carrier house but I am much more familiar with Enertech.

These will be water-to-water units with a buffer tank and distribution system.

Unless something has changed, the Carrier geo equipment is rebranded Climate Master. In my experience it is decent equipment.

I would just go Climate Master.

    Why a buffer tank?

Are A2W Carrier unit actually Viessmann now since Carrier took over that portion of Viessmann?

Probably a mix of the Viessmann technology and the carrier toshiba product line. Viessmann hadn't made a US A2W unit until after the acquisition so I imagine the new relationship with toshiba helped them get through the hurdles of adapting their product to the US market. The US A2W outdoor unit Viessmann is selling now looks different from the European models, the indoor unit and buffer tank are likely existing viessmann tech. The European models always used the refrigerant grade propane that we aren't allowed to use here

Carrier because that's the only WSHP my HVAC contractors preferred distributor offers - if I decide against Carrier then I would have to go to ClimateMaster or Enertech through a different distributor but I prefer to let him use the place where he has the best relationship and support, plus he will likely get better pricing as he does a lot of volume and they will likely be stocking the parts he needs if there is a service issue.

They only carry Watts SS manifolds, I was planning on Caleffi or Upnor and am not familiar with Watts quality if anyone with experience wants to weigh in? We will be using thermal actuators on every circuit so their reliability is important, there are a dozen manifolds.

Who will have parts for the manifold 20 years from now is important too.

Watts has used a number of different manufacturers over the years for their manifolds. This is an early SS manifold of theirs. I thought they used a Rifeng PAP tube and SSW manifolds for a period also.

I believe Watts uses Rehau now, I will likely use Upnor as it is widely available in this area (eg: parts as well) but Calefi or Watts would also be good choices.

I learned yesterday that Carrier is sourcing from Bosch and I was also given an opinion by a manufacturers competitive analysis rep that for water-2-water single stage units they are all essentially equivalent inside but for packaged units there are more differences to consider… in case that is useful to someone in the future reading this thread.

A good chance that Watts and Rehau get manifolds from the same OEM manufacturer, they look identical. I don’t know if any of the big name tube manufacturers build their own manifolds?

Rehau bought brass manifolds from Caleffi for years, they now use stainless.
